These can only be a good thing for consumers. I wonder why the 10% of turnover bite is not applied to other breaches of law which consumers find equally distressing, for example serious misuses of personal data. That is an area where the bark has for a long time had no bite at all. We are making progress on that with the new penalties which are in the pipeline, but I wonder if that’s enough in a society where our personal data is so important to us. In the online world, it’s not just data about us, it really is our identity.
