Hunt does the right thing: looking at practical ways to tackle copyright infingement on web

Nice to see Jeremy Hunt say yesterday that the Digital Economy Act needed looking at to see if the blocking plans are actually doable.  Ofcom’s been charged with having a bit of a think.  Filesharers should not start celebrating though, as Jeremy Hunt said it like this:

“I have no problem with the principle of blocking access to websites used exclusively for facilitating illegal downloading of content, but it is not clear whether the site-blocking provisions in the act could work in practice so I have asked Ofcom to address this question. Before we consider introducing site blocking we need to know whether these measures are possible.”

This seems to have been driven by concerns posted on the Your Freedom site, where the Government asked people to give their views on what laws to keep/scrap.  Nice one citizenry!
